XI. The soldiers crucify Jesus

Searing heat lies on the scanty soil of Calvary. The soldier nailing Jesus to the cross is the only one casting a shadow. In well-practiced fashion, the nail is positioned and driven through the flesh and into the wood with the swift blow of the hammer.

The soldier's face is not visible, he is part of the execution-squad resulting from a law made by men for men, not of God.
